Toncoin

Toncoin is the native cryptocurrency of The Open Network (TON), a blockchain platform originally designed by Telegram's founders Nikolai and Pavel Durov. After Telegram stepped back due to SEC regulatory pressure in 2020, the open-source community took over development under the TON Foundation. The blockchain was designed to handle millions of transactions per second and serve as the backbone for decentralized services within Telegram's ecosystem of 900+ million users.

TON's architecture is built for massive scale. It uses a multi-blockchain approach with a masterchain and up to 2^92 accompanying workchains, each of which can split into shardchains as load increases. This dynamic sharding means the network automatically scales based on demand. The consensus mechanism combines proof-of-stake with Byzantine fault tolerance, achieving block finality in seconds.

What makes TON unique is its deep integration with Telegram. Users can send TON directly through Telegram messages, buy usernames as NFTs, and interact with TON-based mini apps (called Telegram Mini Apps) without leaving the messaging platform.
