Sui

Sui is a layer-1 blockchain built by Mysten Labs, founded by former Meta (Facebook) engineers who worked on the Diem blockchain project and the Move programming language. Launched on mainnet in May 2023, Sui represents a fundamentally different approach to blockchain architecture, prioritizing parallel transaction processing and an object-centric data model.

Unlike traditional blockchains that process transactions sequentially, Sui can execute independent transactions in parallel. If two transactions don't touch the same data, they run simultaneously rather than waiting in a queue. This design enables massive throughput with low latency. The network uses a delegated proof-of-stake consensus called Narwhal and Bullshark (now evolved into Mysticeti), which separates data availability from consensus ordering.

Sui uses the Move programming language, originally developed at Meta for the Diem project. Move treats digital assets as first-class objects with ownership semantics built directly into the language. This makes it much harder to accidentally create bugs that lose or duplicate tokens. For developers, this means safer smart contracts and more intuitive asset management compared to Solidity-based chains.

The Sui ecosystem has grown rapidly since launch, with particular strength in gaming, NFTs, and consumer applications. The zkLogin feature lets users create blockchain accounts using their existing Google, Facebook, or Apple logins without managing private keys. Sponsored transactions allow applications to pay gas fees on behalf of users. These features make Sui one of the most user-friendly blockchains for mainstream adoption. Major partnerships with gaming studios and enterprises continue to expand its reach.
