Almost Half of Binance Altcoins Just Lost Their Trend. Bitcoin's Eating Their Lunch.
The share of Binance-listed altcoins trading below their 200-day moving average jumped from under 10% to 48.4% in about three weeks. Bitcoin dominance is climbing, and Blockchaincenter's 30-day Altcoin Month Index just slid to 29. The rotation is real, and it's accelerating.
48.4%. That's the share of Binance-listed altcoins now trading below their 200-day moving average. On October 18. Up from under 10% in early October.
Read that again. In roughly three weeks, the altcoin market went from almost everything in an uptrend to nearly half of it broken.
Anon, let me explain. This isn't a pullback. It's a rotation. And it's moving fast.
The Trend Just Broke
Blockchaincenter's 30-day Altcoin Month Index slid to 29. That's four points from 25, the line that officially stamps the tape as Bitcoin season. The 90-day Altcoin Season Index still reads a neutral 51. But neutral is what you see right before a number rolls over.
Here's the thing about that 200-day stat. Under 10% to 48.4%, and it happened at the index level, not coin by coin. That kind of flip hits the names retail loves most. Small caps. Long-tail Binance listings. The stuff that ran 3x on a tweet in September and gave it all back by mid-October.
So the rally that pulled nine in ten altcoins above trend has already surrendered half its ground. That's the story. Not a single bad chart. A market-wide pattern break.
Beta Without Demand
Real talk: most of what ran in early October wasn't altcoin demand. It was BTC beta with borrowed money stacked on top. When Bitcoin went vertical, traders aped down the risk curve because it was the fastest way to make a number go up. That works until it doesn't.
Now capital's doing the boring thing. Rotating back into the big one. Bitcoin dominance climbing is the cleanest signal in this whole dataset. The chain doesn't lie, and right now it's saying the marginal dollar would rather sit in the reserve asset than gamble on a token with a Discord and a roadmap.
Who wins? BTC maxis. Spot holders with low time preference. Anyone who took profit on the long tail in the first week of October. Who loses? The degen margin crowd. The people who bought the top of a coin because the 200-day chart looked pretty.
So ask yourself, honestly. If half the market can't hold a 200-day trend during the strongest stretch of the cycle, was it ever really a bull market for those coins? Or was it just Bitcoin wearing a costume?
I think you know the answer. Most of these bags were rented, not owned.
What To Watch
Two numbers. The 30-day Altcoin Month Index at 25, and Bitcoin dominance at its recent high. If the index breaks 25, that's a formal Bitcoin season call, not a warning shot.
The 90-day reading at 51 is the last patch of neutral ground. Lose that and the altseason crowd runs out of charts to post. I've been saying this for weeks, most of this cycle's altcoin upside was borrowed from BTC's momentum, and borrowed money always gets called back.
Watch the 200-day share too. If it keeps climbing past 60%, we're not in a pullback anymore. We're in a regime change. And anyone still aping long-tail listings with fresh margin is going to find out the hard way.
Short version: Bitcoin's winning, the data already knows, and most traders are just late to the trade.
