On-Chain Inference

Running machine learning model inference on or verified by a blockchain.

Definition

Running machine learning model inference on or verified by a blockchain. Because blockchains are slow and expensive, most on-chain inference uses off-chain computation with on-chain verification via zero-knowledge proofs (zkML) or optimistic verification. EZKL, Modulus Labs, Giza, and Ritual are building infrastructure for this. Use cases include verifiable AI credit scoring in DeFi, AI oracle feeds, and trustless prediction markets. True on-chain LLM inference isn't feasible yet due to compute costs.
