Beacon Chain

The proof-of-stake coordination layer of Ethereum, launched in December 2020.

Definition

The proof-of-stake coordination layer of Ethereum, launched in December 2020. The Beacon Chain manages validators, processes attestations, and runs the consensus mechanism. It merged with Ethereum's execution layer in September 2022 during The Merge, transitioning Ethereum from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake.
