MEXC's August: Memecoin Traders Up 21%, Tokenized Stocks Up 31%
MEXC posted 21% month-over-month growth in new-token traders for August, with one token peaking at a 14,143% gain. Tokenized stock volume climbed 31% and gold-linked assets kept running. Two very different crowds, one platform.
JUST IN: MEXC dropped its August numbers and they're wild. New-token traders jumped 21% month over month. Tokenized stock volume climbed 31%. Two very different crowds, one platform, and both are getting louder.
The headline stat is Niu Lai (牛来), which peaked at a 14,143% gain. That's not a typo. The top 10 tokens by peak gain averaged 3,358%, up 145% from July. Five of those same tokens also landed in the top 10 by spot volume, and together they drove 65% of the action. Memecoins took 55% of top-10 volume. The other 45% went to AI, RWA, DeFi, and cross-chain projects.
So the degens are still running the casino floor. But the utility tokens aren't dead. They're just quieter.
Over on the TradFi side, tokenized stocks did the heavy lifting. TradFi Spot volume rose 13%, and the 31% jump in tokenized equities drove most of it. CRCL, NBIS, and SPCX all cracked the top 10 by volume. GOLD (PAXG) climbed 43% and took the number one spot in TradFi Spot. Precious metals futures rose 32%, with XAU up 57% and SILVER up 39%. XAUT fell 10%. Growth in that category wasn't even. It was concentrated in gold and silver.
MEXC also ran three flagship campaigns in August, each with a 1 million USDT prize pool. The TradFi Million-Dollar Gala pulled over 174,000 registrations and averaged 4.2 billion USDT in daily volume. That's real money chasing tokenized exposure.
CEO Vugar Usi says users want fast access without friction between markets. Fair enough. But is one app holding meme coins and tokenized Nvidia really the future of trading, or just a clever way to keep retail from closing the tab?
Here's what I'm watching. Tokenized stock volume needs to hold up once the campaign incentives dry up. That's the real test. The market's verdict comes in September.
