TWAP (Time-Weighted Average Price)

An order execution strategy that breaks a large trade into smaller chunks spread over a set time period to minimize price impact.

Definition

An order execution strategy that breaks a large trade into smaller chunks spread over a set time period to minimize price impact. Instead of buying all at once and moving the market, TWAP distributes the order evenly. Whales and institutions use TWAP orders to accumulate or distribute without alerting the market.
