Plasma

An early Ethereum scaling solution that creates child chains anchored to the main chain.

Definition

An early Ethereum scaling solution that creates child chains anchored to the main chain. It was proposed by Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Poon in 2017 but was largely superseded by rollups because of data availability issues. Polygon (formerly Matic) started as a Plasma implementation before evolving.
