MEV (Maximal Extractable Value)

The maximum value that can be extracted from block production beyond standard block rewards and gas fees.

Definition

The maximum value that can be extracted from block production beyond standard block rewards and gas fees. Block builders reorder, insert, or censor transactions to capture arbitrage, liquidations, and sandwich attacks. MEV affects every blockchain user through worse prices and higher costs.
