Definition

Protocols that enable smart contracts on different blockchains to communicate with each other. Unlike bridges that just move tokens, messaging protocols send arbitrary data and function calls across chains. Chainlink CCIP, LayerZero, and Hyperlane are major cross-chain messaging systems.
