Blob Transactions

A new transaction type introduced with Ethereum's EIP-4844 upgrade that lets Layer 2s post data to Ethereum much more cheaply.

Definition

A new transaction type introduced with Ethereum's EIP-4844 upgrade that lets Layer 2s post data to Ethereum much more cheaply. Blobs are temporary data chunks that get pruned after about 18 days. This cut L2 transaction costs by up to 100x when it went live in March 2024.
