About Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is an Ethereum-based meme cryptocurrency that launched in August 2020, created by an anonymous developer known as "Ryoshi." Originally nicknamed "the Dogecoin killer," SHIB started as an experiment in decentralized community building. The token's popularity exploded in 2021, driven by retail investor enthusiasm and endorsements from figures like Elon Musk and Vitalik Buterin.
SHIB's origin story includes one of the most famous events in crypto. The creator sent 50% of the total supply to Vitalik Buterin's wallet. Buterin burned 90% of what he received (worth billions at the time) and donated the remaining 10% to India's COVID-19 relief fund. This event reduced the circulating supply significantly and became a defining moment in the Shiba Inu narrative.
Unlike simpler meme tokens, the Shiba Inu ecosystem has expanded into a multi-token platform. BONE serves as the governance token for ShibaSwap (the ecosystem's decentralized exchange). LEASH is a limited-supply token with special privileges. The team has also developed Shibarium, a layer-2 blockchain built on top of Ethereum that processes SHIB transactions more cheaply and quickly than the Ethereum mainnet.
The Shiba Inu community, known as the "SHIB Army," is one of the largest and most active in crypto, with millions of holders worldwide. The project has expanded into NFTs (Shiboshis), a metaverse project (SHIB: The Metaverse), and ShibaSwap for decentralized trading. Thousands of merchants accept SHIB for payments through integration with services like BitPay and NOWPayments. What started as a meme coin has evolved into a growing ecosystem with real infrastructure and one of the most engaged communities in cryptocurrency.
