Tokenized Stocks in DeFi Hit $262M, an 18-Fold Jump Since January
Stock-linked tokens sitting inside DeFi apps climbed from $14.66 million to roughly $262.4 million in nine months. Solana led with $95.9 million, Robinhood Chain held $79.9 million, and Base came in near $16 million. The number that matters isn't the total, it's what those tokens are doing.
Stock-linked tokens don't just sit in wallets anymore. By September 30, roughly $262.4 million of them were parked inside DeFi applications across multiple chains. On January 1, that figure was $14.66 million. Do the math and you get an 18-fold jump in nine months.
Solana carried about $95.9 million of it. Robinhood Chain held roughly $79.9 million. Base, the chain plenty of people would guess owns this category, came in near $16 million. So the growth is spread out. No single exchange or rollup is running away with it, at least not yet.
Here's the part that gets lost in the headline number. This measures stock tokens being used, as collateral, inside automated market makers, inside lending pools. It isn't the total value of tokenized equities in existence. Those are two very different stats, and people mix them up constantly.
Think of it this way: a tokenized share in a cold wallet is a receipt. The same token pledged as collateral on a lending protocol is a working asset. That's the shift. And it's why the plumbing matters.
My take: composability is the entire product. A brokerage account can't post your Apple shares as collateral at 2am without a human signing off. A smart contract can. That's a real difference, not a marketing line. The winners here are the venues that already have liquidity and the issuers who show up with clean legal terms.
But the risk cuts both ways. Not every token represents legal ownership of an underlying share. Redemption terms and eligibility rules vary by issuer, and a lot of buyers won't read them. In practice, protocol risk and thin liquidity are brand new for equity investors who've never had a position moved by a governance vote.
And $262 million is still a rounding error next to US equities. Watch the issuer terms, not the TVL.
