Russian Crypto Holder Kidnapped in Bali: 30-Hour Ordeal Ends with Crypto Heist

In a harrowing incident in Bali, a Russian national endured a 30-hour ordeal after being kidnapped by masked men demanding access to his cryptocurrency account. The victim, known only as AI, was ambushed near Pecatu on July 2. The attackers blocked his path using a black Nissan Serena, handcuffed him, and drove him to an undisclosed location where he was held captive and assaulted until he relented.

The kidnappers didn't just stop at physical violence. They seized AI's Xiaomi phone and used it, alongside keys to his villa, to take another device linked to his crypto wallet. The victim was later abandoned outside Udayana University Hospital, requiring emergency medical care following his release on July 4.

As Bali police continue to investigate, reviewing CCTV and phone records, the case underscores a broader pattern of violent 'wrench attacks' targeting crypto holders globally. Such attacks focus on physically coercing individuals for their digital assets, a trend on the rise with instances reported in countries like France, which had 77 cases of crypto-related kidnappings this year alone.
