Probly Brings 47,000 Prediction Markets to TOKEN2049, With 172 Trading Today
Probly used TOKEN2049 Singapore to show off 5,100 events and 47,000 markets, plus 172 live same-day contracts including rolling BTC and ETH binaries. The real story isn't the sponsor check. It's automatic on-chain USDC payout, and why that matters more than coverage.
Forty-seven thousand markets. That's the number Probly carried into Singapore in October, and it's the only figure in the whole announcement worth arguing about.
The company spent TOKEN2049 week as a Gold Sponsor and co-hosted WHALE3RA at MARQUEE alongside BloFin and TxFlow. The pitch wasn't a funding round or a token. It was a market count.
What Actually Shipped
Break the numbers down. 5,100 events. 47,000 individual markets spanning sports, geopolitics, crypto, finance, economy and politics. Of those, 172 are live at any given time for same-day trading, including rolling up-or-down contracts on BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP.
Probly runs on TxFlow L1 through TIP3, the TxFlow Improvement Protocol 3. The structure employs self-custodied USDC, peer-to-peer matching, and fully on-chain settlement. Payouts land automatically. There's no claim button to hunt down.
That last detail sounds boring. It's the most important sentence in the release.
If you've ever used a prediction market, you know the ritual. You win. You wait. You come back a week later, remember the position exists, sign a transaction, pay gas, and finally collect what you're owed. Probly is claiming the loop closes itself.
Even the name is deliberate. Probly comes from "probably," the word people reach for when an outcome is still open. It's also a nod to P(A), the notation for the probability of an event. Someone in product was awake during statistics.
The Real Product Isn't the Election
Prediction markets get discussed through elections and macro prints. Huge events, huge headlines, huge volume spikes. Then the event resolves and the volume falls off a cliff.
Look at the ratio again. 47,000 markets. 172 live. That gap is the whole business model in one line. Most of those markets are inventory, sitting quietly until they matter. The 172 trading today are the engine.
And rolling crypto up-or-down contracts aren't a side feature. They're the closest thing this category has to a flow business. Five-minute and hourly binaries on BTC and ETH produce repeat visits rather than one-time curiosity. Polymarket built its brand on elections and then spent years managing the 47 weeks a year without one. Probly is wagering that a trader who checks a BTC binary at 9am comes back at 9pm.
Here's my first opinion, and it isn't comfortable for the category. Short-duration crypto binaries will draw more regulatory attention than any election market ever did. A contract that resolves in minutes on the price of an asset, sold to retail, with an outsized payoff profile, looks less like an information market and more like a derivative. Watch where the CFTC and offshore regulators aim in 2027. That's where the fight lands.
Second opinion. Automatic on-chain payout is the actual moat, and almost nobody is discussing it. Market coverage is replicable. A competitor can list more sports, more politics, more weather by Friday. What's hard to copy is a settlement rail where the user does nothing after the fact. That's an infrastructure problem wearing a product costume. TxFlow builds the rail. Probly gets the benefit of running it first. The first transaction of its kind, at least at this scale.
So who loses? Centralized prediction venues still running manual withdrawal flows and custodial balances. Also any exchange treating prediction markets as a marketing gimmick bolted onto an order book. The moment automatic payout becomes table stakes, the friction advantage evaporates.
Wall Street is moving. Quietly. Not into event contracts directly, but into the plumbing beneath them. A self-custodied, USDC-denominated, on-chain settled binary is a probe for a much bigger question. Can you price an uncertain event, clear it, and pay it out without a custodian standing in the middle? If that works for a sports market, it works for plenty of other things.
Probly doesn't have the volume to prove any of this yet. That's the honest caveat. 5,100 events is a catalog, not liquidity. A Gold Sponsorship buys awareness, and awareness doesn't compound the way retention does.
The Ratio to Watch
This category doesn't have a demand problem. Demand shows up every time something big happens. It has a distribution problem, and a payout problem, and Probly is making a credible run at the second one.
The catalog is deep enough to cover the dead weeks. The settlement rail removes the last annoying step. That combination is worth more than the party at MARQUEE.
Now watch the ratio. If Probly's live-market count climbs toward triple digits across more assets by the end of the first quarter, the flow thesis holds and the catalog starts earning its keep. If it stays at 172 while the total balloons to 60,000, they're running a library, not an exchange. Small numbers that trade every day beat a big number that trades once a year. That's the whole bet, and it's a good one.
Prediction markets will be judged on repeat visits, not election nights. The companies that figure that out first own the next cycle.
