MEXC's Stock Futures Volume Jumped 130% in August, and Memory Names Ate the Board

MEXC's TradFi desk posted a 130% month-over-month jump in stock futures volume in August, with memory and semiconductor names doing most of the heavy lifting. SK hynix and Micron ripped, SOXL volume went up nearly 13x, and tokenized stock spot trading grew 30%. The boring index trade is dying and the degen sector trade is taking over.
MEXC moved a lot of TradFi volume in August. Stock, index, and ETF futures trading climbed 130% month over month, and the platform now lists more than 400 contracts, up 35%. Tokenized stocks and ETF spot volume rose 30%. That isn't a slow crawl into equities. That's a stampede.
The memory trade is the main character here. Five of the top 10 stock futures by volume tracked memory and storage names. SK hynix took second overall and first among single-stock futures, with volume up roughly 401%. Micron landed third, up 267%. Together, SK hynix, SKHY, Samsung, and KORU pushed Korean exposure up about 348%, and their share of total stock futures volume went from 14% in July to 27% in August. SanDisk is the odd one out. It kept growing, but its slice dropped from 25% to 11%. When a name that's still climbing loses share, the whole pie got massive.
Then there's the degen crowd. SOXL, the 3x long semiconductor ETF play, did nearly 13x its prior volume, up about 1,192%, and its share of total stock futures volume went from under 4% to 20%. Its inverse twin SOXS rose 436%. Meanwhile SPX500 futures fell 32%. We regret to inform you that the broad index is no longer the vibe. Tesla futures jumped 784%. SpaceX up 45%.
Spot held its own too. Roughly 99% of tokenized stock and ETF listings posted higher volume, and the top 10 only accounted for 12% of the segment's total. That's breadth, not one whale. Circle ranked first, up 69%. Nebius came third at 188%, the fastest grower in the top 10. NVIDIA sat fifth, up 54%. Coinbase and Robinhood both cracked the top 10, and those three crypto-adjacent names combined for a 47% gain.
The weekend number is the one worth staring at. Ten weekend days in August produced about 11% of the month's stock futures volume. Underlying markets were closed. Users weren't. CEO Vugar Usi's pitch is blunt, trade Wall Street without walls, and 86,000 people showed up to the 0-fee 0808 event, saving over $1 million in fees.
My take: tokenized equities are quietly becoming the exchange business that actually matters. Another day, another saga, and this time the saga is a brokerage account with a crypto wallet bolted on.
