MEXC's September Data: Tokenized Stocks Up 81%, and Now They're Quote Assets
New-token spot volume jumped 77% on MEXC in September. Tokenized U.S. stock volume rose 81%. But the number worth your attention is buried further down: stock tokens are now being used as the quote asset in new trading pairs, which turns a product into plumbing.
MEXC published September trading data, and the headline numbers are the boring part. New-token spot volume up 77% month over month. Tokenized U.S. stock volume up 81%. TradFi spot volume up 78%. Fine. The line that actually matters is smaller: tokenized stocks are now being used as quote assets for on-chain new-token pairs.
That's a market structure change, not a volume stat.
What happened, in order
Start on September 16. Circle pushed Arc, its own chain, to mainnet. ARGUS, the token of a launch platform built on Arc, listed on MEXC the same day and finished the month inside the top 10 new tokens by spot volume. Same-day listing on a mainnet launch is a logistics flex. It only happens when the listing pipeline is already warm and waiting.
Through the rest of the month, newly listed tokens on MEXC rose 15% month over month. Users trading new tokens grew 27%. Seven of the top 10 new tokens by spot volume made their exchange debut on MEXC. That tells you where early-stage flow is actually landing, and it isn't landing everywhere.
Two Stock Meme projects, 4STOCK and MEMEROBINHOOD, together pulled roughly 38% of the top 10's combined volume. That's a lot of weight on two tickers with a joke in the name.
Then the equity side moved. More than half of the tokenized U.S. stocks on the platform at least doubled their volume. MRVL up 212%. META up 152%, both new entrants to the top 10. CRCL up 103%, landing fourth. The count of tokenized U.S. stocks in the top 10 by TradFi spot volume went from three in August to five in September.
The xStocks Gala campaign pulled almost 100,000 registrations, with average daily volume above $3.4 billion during the event. Promo numbers are promo numbers. But $3.4 billion a day for a stock-token campaign isn't a rounding error.
The quote asset is the story
Here's the thing. Volume spikes fade. Market structure doesn't. When a tokenized stock becomes the quote asset in a pair, it stops being a product and starts being plumbing.
Here's the relevant code. A new token priced in a tokenized equity needs a price reference the ABI can resolve, an indexer that can track two asset classes inside one pool, and an RPC layer that doesn't fall over when equities are closed and crypto isn't. That's a real engineering problem. Somebody shipped it.
EMBER and BREW both rank in the top 10 new tokens by spot volume. Both are tied to launch platforms that support pairs between new tokens and stock-related assets. That's not a meme. That's a routing decision.
And three of the five distinct Stock Meme projects across the two rankings run on Robinhood Chain. Read that again. A brokerage's chain is quietly hosting a third of the stock-themed token activity across the rankings on one of the largest offshore exchanges. If you're building an L2 and you aren't thinking about how tokenized equities settle on it, you're building for the last cycle.
Should a memecoin named after a brokerage get more attention than the settlement layer underneath it? Probably not. But here we're.
The concentration cuts both ways. Four Stock Meme projects, MEMEROBINHOOD, SI, MOO and 4STOCK, took about 67% of the top-gainers ranking's total volume. Sixty-seven percent of a leaderboard isn't diversification. It's one theme wearing four hats. That's fragile if the theme cools, and it's the reason the quote-asset angle matters more than the gains.
What to watch from here
Watch October for two specific things. First, does the share of new listings quoted in stock tokens keep climbing, or does it snap back once the gala incentives dry up? Second, do MRVL and META hold their top-10 spots after the promo tail wears off? One month is a spike. Two months is a market.
MEXC's real advantage is speed. Seven of ten top new tokens debuting there isn't marketing. It's a listing desk that moves faster than the competition and eats the price discovery that comes with being first. Zero fees are the easy part. You can match a fee schedule in a week. You can't match a listing pipeline by announcing one.
My read: the 81% equity number gets the headlines, but the 67% concentration and the quote-asset pairs are the load-bearing stats. They say traders are treating tokenized equities as a risk asset and as a unit of account at the same time. Those are two different jobs. Both are happening in the same order book.
CEO Vugar Usi framed the month as convergence, noting that a single market theme can now drive volume in both tokenized stocks and on-chain new tokens. He's right. Which is exactly why the plumbing deserves more scrutiny than the percentage. When one theme ripples across two markets on one book, the failure mode isn't a bad print. It's a stale price reference that everyone downstream trusts.
Clone the repo. Run the test. Then form an opinion. If the pairs hold through November, this was a structural shift. If they don't, September was a campaign with good PR.
