Uncle Block

A valid block that was mined at the same time as another block but didn't make it into the main chain.

Definition

A valid block that was mined at the same time as another block but didn't make it into the main chain. In Ethereum's proof-of-work era, uncle blocks were partially rewarded to reduce miner centralization. Since Ethereum moved to proof-of-stake, uncle blocks no longer exist.
