State Trie

A data structure used by Ethereum to store the complete state of all accounts, balances, and smart contract storage.

Definition

A data structure used by Ethereum to store the complete state of all accounts, balances, and smart contract storage. It's a modified Merkle Patricia trie that lets you cryptographically prove any piece of state data. State growth is a major scalability concern because every full node must store it.
