Sequencer

The component in a rollup that orders and batches transactions before submitting them to the main chain.

Definition

The component in a rollup that orders and batches transactions before submitting them to the main chain. Most L2s currently run centralized sequencers operated by the team, which is faster but creates a single point of failure. Decentralizing sequencers is a major goal for projects like Espresso and Astria.
