Opcode

Operation code.

Definition

Operation code. The basic instructions that the EVM executes when running a smart contract. Each opcode performs a specific action like adding numbers (ADD), storing data (SSTORE), or sending ETH (CALL). Each opcode costs a specific amount of gas. Gas optimization often means reducing expensive opcodes.
