Lucid Motors Recalls 4,000 SUVs Due to Seat Belt Flaw: What It Means for the EV Market

Lucid Motors is facing a significant setback as it announces a recall of over 4,000 Gravity SUVs, nearly the entire lineup produced since the model launched last year. The recall stems from improperly welded seat belt anchors in the second row, posing a potential safety risk during collisions. The issue has been traced back to a manufacturing change by a seat supplier, which was done without Lucid's knowledge or approval. The company has since reverted to the original seat design for newer models, ensuring that vehicles manufactured after February 14, 2026, are unaffected.

This isn't Lucid's first bump on the road with the Gravity SUV. Last year, a separate recall was issued for airbag issues, and software bugs have also plagued the model. Despite these challenges, Lucid Motors claims no injuries have resulted from the current seat belt defect. Still, the recall's scale challenges smaller EV manufacturers face in maintaining quality control. For Lucid, which sold around 15,800 vehicles across all models in 2025, this glitch impacts a significant portion of its production.
